Connecting Cultures, Inc. attends the Upper Midwest Translators and Interpreters Association (UMTIA) conference in Minneapolis, MN

In May of 2007 Rashelle LeCaptain, Bobbie Ludes and Steve Ludes attended the Upper Midwest Translator and Interpreter Association conference in Minneapolis, MN. They attended a variety of presentations touching on the various aspects of health care interpreting. Included were presentations by Amy Wilson-Stronks, Principal Investigator for the Joint Commission on the Joint Commission Study: Hospitals, Language and Culture: A Snapshot of the Nation and Bruce Adelson, J.D., former U.S. Attorney on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. National Certification for Health Care interpreters was a hot topic at this conference where a panel of national experts
met to discuss the future of national certification and how it might be implemented. A report on the Expert Panel on Community Interpreter Testing and Certification was presented by Bruce Downing, Ph.D., Shiva Bidar-Sielaff, MA and Cindy Roat, MPH. It was a full and exciting conference that gave us new and exciting information regarding our industry both regionally and nationally.
